Wifi Signal Strength

The wifi signal strength can vary across the hospital and from room to room. The system measures the signal strength every 60 seconds. If it is optimal then no indication is provided. However, if it is below an ideal threshold, a low wifi indicator is provided in the header and you can hover over the ellipsis to view the actual signal strength.

The ideal WiFi signal strength is between -30 dBm and -50 dBm, depending on how close or far away from the access point you happen to be.

  • -30 dBm = Excellent - Max achievable signal strength. Your video device is most likely only a few feet from the AP to achieve this signal.
  • -50 dBm = Very Good - adequate signal for most business applications. Live video will be solid in this range.
  • -60 dBm = Okay - but this is the recommended minimum signal strength required for a reliable live video / audio connection. At this level we display the low wifi warning icon in the header bar.
  • -70 dBm = Unstable - connectivity will be unreliable.
