Advanced Configuration Guide
This Guide is intended for Administrators and IT professionals. Please do not attempt local configuration without proper approval and knowledge of the process.
Introduction
The LookDeep Video Unit (LVU) is positioned within the patient's hospital room to provide real-time video monitoring using the integrated cameras, speaker and microphone. This document addresses the setup and configuration process to enable monitoring. This is generally a one-time activity that is required per hospital location.
Prerequisites
A. Firewall Settings
If the network architecture includes an outbound firewall, the devices require outbound access to these domains:
|
B. Wifi Channels
- UNII-2e channels are disabled by default based on those channels requiring DFS (Dynamic Frequency Selection)and are not recommended for medical devices. (Reference: Engineering the wireless hospital: Mobility and connectivity)
- If your hospital system does take advantage of these channels, we can enable their usage on a device, hospital or system level.
Setup Process
- Initiate Standby Mode by pressing the Mute button for 5 seconds.
- The LED bar will turn purple which indicates that the LVU Access point is active.
- On your laptop or mobile device, connect to the LookDeep Access point (AP).
Troubleshooting Tip
On rare occasions, when you enter Configuration Mode and look for the LVU AP, it will not display. If that occurs, allow the Configuration Mode to timeout. This will take about 5 minutes and the LED will go from Purple and return to Orange. Do not attempt to expedite the process by power cycling the LVU while it is in Configuration Mode as that will not work. Once the LED has returned to Orange, enter Configuration Mode again and the AP should be available to select.
- You will be prompted for the password. If you do not have it, contact your local administrator for the password LookDeep provided your organization
- Start a web browser and type:
- setup.lookdeep
- If that does not work, try, 10.0.0.5
- If that does not work, try: http://10.0.0.5:80
You should see the following web UI:
- Click the Select button and select the hospital wifi network for which you want to connect the LVU. Then enter the network password.
- If a wifi certificate is required to connect to your hospital network, click the Advanced link to access additional security fields.
- Authentication Key Management Protocol
- WPA-PSK
- WPA-EAP
- IEEE8021X
- NONE
- EAP Method
- TLS
- PEAP
- TTLS
- MSCHAPV2
- MD5
- OTP
- GTC
- Identity String for EAP
- Password String for EAP
- CA Certificate file
- Client Certificate file
- Private Key file
- Private Key Password
- Click the SAVE button. You will see the following message in the banner:
- “Saving Wi-Fi settings. Disconnecting access point temporarily in order to test connection. Please reconnect to access point when it becomes available.”
- When you evaluate your available access points, you may notice that the LVU AP will turn grey (or disappear completely) and then return to black (or reappear). When it reappears, click the access point. The screen should refresh with this message: “Wifi credentials saved”
- Now click the exit icon in the lower left of the screen.
The LVU will restart and you should see a Green Wifi light and a Blue LED bar. This indicates that the LVU has been disconnected from the access points and successfully connected to the hospital network and ready for monitoring.
The LVU is ready for monitoring.
Optional Configuration Settings
Optional configuration settings for the LVU are also available on the Device Configura:
- Default volume
- Default LED brightness
- Default Light Threshold

Engineering Configuration Settings
The Device Credentials tab includes configuration settings that will be pre-configured prior to deployment to the hospital. Please do not edit any of these parameters unless instructed to do so.
- Open the lookdeep.env file in a text editor and cut-n-paste the contents into the lookdeep.env section.
- Open the device_account.json file in a text editor and cut-n-paste the contents into the device_account.json section.
- Open the device_private.pem file in a text editor and cut-n-paste the contents into the device_private.pem section.

Green (blinking) | Privacy Curtain enabled |
Blue | Online / live video NOT active |
Red | Offline / error |
Orange | Initialization |
Purple | Configuration Mode |
Yellow | Software update in progress |
Troubleshooting
In the event that you’ve confirmed:
- the user has external internet access
- the user can access the LookDeep application: Patient Central
- yet no LVUs will show as online within the application
It is then recommended to confirm the firewall access configuration has not changed. It is essential that all domains and ports listed in the Prerequisites section of the document are accessible. It is possible that the firewall settings are different for the LVUs as compared to desktop or laptop devices. Therefore it is important to evaluate the firewall access directly from the LVU. To validate this, please follow the steps below.
Firewall Access
- To evaluation you corporate firewall access status, go to
- Click “Run”
- Scroll to the bottom of the report output and look for the section titled: “
- You should see a report that looks like this:
testing open ports...

If any of the domains are not open, please contact your IT / Network / Firewall Administrator for assistance in getting access to that domain.
If all prerequisite domains are open, please contact LookDeep Support for further assistance.
