Safety Zone

In this article

Introduction

The Safety Zone can be described as a virtual perimeter surrounding the patient, delineating a secure area for the patient to remain within.

Best Practice

  • Utilize the Safety Zone when monitoring patients.
  • Review all Safety Zones to ensure they are properly set, and regularly review and edit Safety Zones for each patient.
  • Make use of audible alerts when using Safety Zones.

Safety Zone in Edit Mode

  • Enter the Safety Zone Edit Mode by clicking the ellipsis in the top left corner and selecting: “Edit Safety Zone”
  • The existing Safety Zone will appear. If this is a new Safety Zone, a default polygon will be displayed
  • Drag the corners to reshape and reposition
  • Double-click the red perimeter to add more points to the polygon
  • Safety Zone is edited on a per-patient basis
Safety zone will appear red while in edit mode
  • After adjusting the Safety Zone in edit mode, save it by clicking on the green Save button
Safety Zone is has not been saved
  • Once saved, the Save button becomes disabled unless you alter the Safety Zone again
Safety Zone has been saved
  • The Delete button removes any existing Safety Zone and exits you from edit mode
  • The Exit button will exit you out of edit mode from Safety Zone.  Any Safety Zone previously Saved will remain.

Safety Zone in Monitoring Mode

  • You can view all patient's Safety Zones while monitoring
  • Show or Hide the Safety Zones
    • Use Video > “Show Safety Zone” to show a grey outline for all patient
    • Update the Safety Zone via the Edit mode on your patients as needed based on the patient's position in the room

Triggering AI Nudge

  • If the perimeter of the Safety Zone is broken, the AI Nudge will be activated
  • An audible alert will accompany the AI Nudge if enabled
  • Any movement within the Safety Zone without breaking the perimeter will not trigger the AI Nudge.

Acklowledgement

  • When the Safety Zone is set and crossed, an AI Nudge is activated, creating a pulsing yellow perimeter around the patient’s video window.
  • It will continue until the VMT acknowledges it by moving their cursor over that video block.
  • At that point, the AI Nudge will go away.

Notice that the AI Nudge goes away when the VMT hovers over the video block.

Reactivation

  • Once an AI Nudge is acknowledged, there is a 10-second cool-down period during which another nudge will not be triggered. This is done to avoid rapid nudge notifications within a very short period of time.
